Low cost petabytes storage

I do not know if you have ever heard of the American company
Backblaze, in any case for those who are geeks like me it is a copmany
to check. They offer unlimited backup for your computer for $5 a
month, very interesting for those who have large files and do not have
too much time to manage multiple external drives and/or has a laptop
where the backup tapes are not easy to manage.

Two years ago they developed and published all the technical
information on how to create a low cost file storage, all
guides allow you to create a “Backblaze storage pod” of 67 terabytes.

Today, the largest capacity of hard drives (increased from 1.5 to 3
Terabytes) allowed Backblaze to publish an updated post on their blog with details
on how to use the new higher capacity disk. Today, with 3 terabytes disk capacity,
you are able to store in a 4U servers a total capacity of about 145
terabytes for a total cost of 7,384 dollars.

For comparison you can see the difference in cost to Petabytes of this
custom-made hardware with commercial solutions.
